**NAMED**Boer War 1901 Dated Blade & WW1 Era British George V 1897 Pattern Sword Guard Engraved To ‘H.W. The sword is complete with its steel scabbard with 2 hanging rings and shoe. Its leather bound grip with finger grooves & wire binding is undamaged with all wire tight and intact. It has a stepped pommel and decorated grip strap with chequered panel to assist grip. The voided brass knuckle guard inspired by Gothic architecture incorporates the Crown & stylised Royal Cypher ‘VRI’. There are no visible manufacturer, date or Regiment marks. The ricasso has ordnance acceptance star with inlaid brass proof roundel. The blade has its original leather hilt washer, crisp etched panels on both sides with Victoria Regina India ‘VRI’ Crowns and foliate panels. This original infantry Officer's Pattern 1845 / 54 sword has a clean 33” single edged blade with fullers (38½” overall). The 1845 / 54 pattern does not have a folding guard and has a fullered single edged blade (see page 175 of World Swords By Withers). The 1822 Pattern had a pipe back blade and fold down guard. The British 1845 / 1854 Pattern Infantry Officer’s sword was the successor to the 1822 pattern.
